I'm a slacker, but here is my summer in a few poorly written paragraphs.

I know, I've been a terrible blogger this summer. I think I wrote 4.. maybe?

I had a busy summer ok!!?!

Well, as it begins to wrap up, I want to try this 'reflecting' thing. My therapist says it's healthy.

Who am I kidding, I don't have a therapist... Although that cartoon shithead on my shoulder has been getting pretty annoying lately. Ok that's enough of that nonsense...

Let's jump back to the beginning..of summer.

*Cheap TV shaky screen into memory but for a blog effect*

The first few months were, for all intents and purposes... absolute write offs. That is the LAST time I take hard online classes at an accelerated rate. Jesus it was bad.

Fast forward to August and here's where the fun-if-you-can-call-it-that stuff happened. I won a gold medal in Ri.... oops, not me. Oh silly, all I did was joinnnn a gym for a month. That's right, I'm slightly less fat and slightly more "in-shape..ha...ha" than before. So, GO JAY!

I want to say one of my biggest accomplishments this summer was listening to A LOT of podcasts and audio books on my endless commutes to Guelph. I made a friend named Fred, he's a manikin cow at the front of a farm I pass everyday. Maybe I do need that therapist...

Ok, on to the good stuff! I went to more conservation areas/beaches in this month than I have my whole life. I also found out I'm not horrible at throwing a Frisbee. That's right, that's a highlight.. and it gets better.

I got the new Windows 10 Anniversary update.. it was AWESOME.
I am currently getting the new Android OS (7.0), and it'll be even MORE AWESOME than the last awesome thing right above this one!

For the truly humbling/humblebrag experience of my summer, my group was hand selected for an important project at school dealing with an actual industry project. The head of Chem Eng at my school has recognized our experimental problem solving skills and notably mentioned my excellent Excel skills. I kinda pride myself on having some exceptional Exel-Fu so it means a lot when other's notice.

Speaking of Excel, I had my first major pay it forward effort this summer designing and coding a work manager for a fellow Redditor in the UK. I learned some new things and hopefully he is finding use for it, so this is a shout out to Scott! (Not that he will have any way ever to read this blog, unless it gets fantastically famous - which I have a better chance going to space tomorrow.)

I had a great summer with old friends and even some new. Here's to getting back to the "don't jump off the bridge Jay it's just a test" mentality of Chemical Engineering. I usually get inspired to write these more when I'm procrastinating something which I do a lot of at school, so keep an eye out if you're interested! (All 5 of you!)

Until next time,

J

Euroblog Part 7

This series ended up being far longer than I anticipated. I could make an ebook about my travels! Who am I kidding, no one would want to read that... let alone buy it. Also, side note: Polarsteps was so great up until a couple days ago when it went haywire and threw a bunch of phantom travel paths on my map. Support said it has been fixed however, there was no way to remove the phantom lines. This all makes for a ton of work for me to redo all of the travel steps. It's unfortunate but I understand these things happen. Anyway, it's all updated now and working as it should, sorry to my 7000  7 followers for any inconvenience. Now that it's all back to normal, here is the link if you'd like to check out my trip! If you missed any of the series, check it out on my social media feeds or on my blog homepage. The last post is right here! July 22 2017 Wow, am I ever behind on this. [Left off in Florence] So I went up the massive dome of the Florence Cathedral...

Tim Hortons: An In-depth Review

As I sit here pretending to be a scriptwriter at a budget Starbucks  Tim Hortons, feeling slightly out of place, I write this review. This will be an attempt at a new series on my blog, since I've been dry with ideas since returning to Canada. Tim Hortons is a Canadian classic coffee shop turned fast food restaurant while still retaining its coffeeshop status. Apparently, it used to be excellent until they changed coffee beans, but that was before my coffee drinking days so I and most people around my age probably feel the same (we don't feel anything about the changed beans). It also used to be cheap, but since high-status coffee shops like the aforementioned Starbucks and Second Cup somehow get away with charging 10$ for a drink, the friendly neighborhood Canadian brand jacks prices to compete. At least it still has its loyal customers. Fun fact, the first Tim's restaurant was in my hometown of Hamilton! It's also the usual go-to spot for a quick bathroom brea...

"Creative yet Clickbaity Title on Solar Energy!"

In the last post, I talked about what the Sun was. A giant nuclear fusion reactor. And since it is so good at being the Sun, it not only provides heat to our Earth, but also light. Lots of light. Hopefully, this isn't news to you (yikes!). Light is an interesting thing we very much take for granted. Look around, there is light in the room you're in, light coming from the screen you're reading this on (unless you're psycho and still print things..) and light from outside. Even at night! The light from the moon, isn't really light from the moon, but a reflection of light from the Sun. Did I just blow your mind? Probably not.. I guess I'm failing as a writer. There is a lot of light available, and all that light also carries energy, rather, it is energy. In reality, the light from your phone screen doesn't really have the potential to power anything, neither does a light bulb. But think about how many light bulbs it would take to equal the amount of light t...
